During the renovations of Sheviock Parish Church, the congregation has been invited to attend services at a number of surrounding churches, as well as holding its regular services at Crafthole Methodist chapel.

On Sunday they were invited to St Paul’s Church, one of three churches based in HMS Raleigh, Torpoint to join the morning service with the Royal Navy recruits. Revd Andrew Corness “Bish” to his congregation, delivered a service like no other – it’s format traditional but its execution far from conventional!

Jenny Bushrod, Sheviock’s project manager, was asked to give a short talk on the works being carried out at St Mary’s, as well as reflecting on her own entry into the Wrens some 40 years ago. Jenny said: “St Mary’s were absolutely delighted to accept this invitation and join the recruits for their service.

‘Real privilege’

“We know that attendance is mandatory for the recruits, but it was a great affirmation of Revd Andrew’s approach that so many of them voluntarily choose to take either communion or the blessing. It was a real privilege to join them today and wish the outgoing class the best for their future careers.”
