Exploring those things that God is calling us to do with our lives is the subject of a Vocations Day in Truro Cathedral on Saturday, March 17.

The day has been organised by members of the Diocese of Truro and provides an opportunity for people to investigate ways in which they might like to answer their own calling.

People from many different walks of life will be there om the day to help others discern where their calling may lie. Some people might feel they have a calling to ordained ministry and to become a priest, but there are many other ways in which people can serve.

There will be stalls manned from 10am to 3pm for people to talk about all kinds of vocation. Every week, throughout the diocese, many hundreds of people live out their vocations – whether though full-time paid or stipendiary roles, or in a whole host of other ways.

The diocesan Director of Ordinands, Revd Canon Jane Vaughan-Wilson, said: “I am always only too pleased to hear from someone who is thinking about ordination, but it’s really important to say right from the start that there are many other kinds of vocation.

“Possibilities are endless”

“It might be helping a child to read at school, it could be becoming a Lay Reader. It may be that you are called to serve as a Local Pastoral Minister, Lay Worship Leader, or to become a teacher or school governor, or being called to help in youth work – from teenagers to toddlers in Messy Church. You may feel that you have other professional or life-skills that you would like to offer the church, to be deployed in ways you haven’t really considered. The possibilities are endless.

“If you feel that God is calling you to serve, whether that is about giving a few hours a month or devoting a large part of your life to His work, I would like to invite you to join us at the Cathedral on March 17.”

People are invited to come for the whole day, or if they would prefer they can drop in for half an hour.
