The threat of rain and windy conditions did nothing to dampen the spirits of St Winnow and the local community, who have just launched an appeal to raise some £ 140,000 towards their ‘Bell & Tower Appeal’.  The fayre was held indoors and offered sanctuary to the many passing walkers and nearby campers, as well as fun, companionship and a lovely afternoon for all who came along.

The fayre was a huge success, with visitors enjoying refreshments, cream teas, strawberries and cream, delights of a cake stall, together with books, pottery, produce, plants, gifts, games and a raffle.

The church was also able to talk to people about it’s appeal and the works which will be carried out to secure its future, including repairs to the inside of the tower and to install a new set of bells with the funds raised, for the benefit of the whole community and beyond.

The portable eight bell mini ring, which is jointly owned by the parishes of Bradoc and St Winnow and is used as a teaching aid,  proved to be highly popular with children and adults alike, who learnt about this ancient skill and were able to have a go themselves in a visual, audible and physical way.

Elizabeth Shufflebotham, Appeal Organiser, said: “This year’s Summer fayre has been a massive success, thanks to everyone who contributed with time and donations and of course, all whom came along in support of our community, the works that we do and our recently launched appeal for funds.  The fayre raised an overwhelming £ 1,000 for church funds, including the Bell & Tower appeal which is a marvellous testament to our community support.  We still have some way to go with our appeal and are continuing with our fund raising efforts with a regular programme of both interesting and fun events scheduled over the coming months, including concerts, walks and educational talks to name a few.  Full details of events can be found at our home page on
www.stwinnowparishchurch.com with information on how you can help with our fundraising on our Bell & Tower Appeal page, including downloadable donation forms.”
