Some Collections of Prayers

If you go on the web and do a search on Amazon for books on prayer and books of prayers, you will find a great number of books on offer. They will vary from the very good to the ‘weird and wonderful' and from the introductory to the very advanced.

That Health Warning also applies if you simply Google ‘prayer' and ‘praying'.  The most-visited sites are not always the best, but that's a reasonable rough and ready guide.

A good short book is Exploring Prayer, by Sue Mayfield

A longer one is How To Pray, by Nick Fawcett
(Kevin Mathew, 2008, ISBN 9781844176908). 

There are some good collections of prayers available.  We recommend:

Great Christian Prayers, edited by R T Kendall and Louise Kendall
(Hodder & Stoughton, 2001, ISBN 9780340785836).
Favourite Prayers, edited by Deborah Cassidi and illustrated by Jackie Cundall
(Continuum, 2000, ISBN 9780826451910).  The editors asked people from all walks of life to choose a favourite prayer or write their own.

Collections of prayers are not so easy to find on the web, but a number of websites offer prayers for each day.  We recommend:

www.cofe.anglican.org/prayers  - daily prayers from the Church of England
http://www.sacredspace.ie/ - ten minutes of guided prayer each day at your computer screen from the Irish Jesuits
http://www.prayerguide.org.uk/ - a prayer guide produced by the Teal Trust
http://www.prayingeachday.org/ - daily prayers from the De La Salle Brothers
http://www.methodist.org.uk/ - ‘Prayer of the Day' from the Methodist Church linked to a daily Bible Study passage
