Ecumenism

There are two major elements to ecumenical affairs in the Diocese:

Anglican and Methodist Clergy with the Revd Steve Wild

The Anglican - Methodist Covenant has helped local churches and chapels develop a closer working relationship in mission and worship.  The Diocesan Bishop and the Chair of Cornwall Methodist District have been active in promoting this during recent years and they embarked upon a series of ‘week-ends', when they visited different areas of the County together, offering a shared ministry of teaching and preaching, while learning about the local scene and local issues.  The two church leaders have a close working relationship, meeting and praying together regularly and they have used their small ‘Covenant Group' to promote the Covenant and wider ecumenical relations.

The other element is the increased activity of local ‘Churches Together' Groups. There are thirty four of these in the Diocese.  They range from large CT  Groups in the major Cornish towns to very small ones embracing one or several country parishes.  CT Groups in places like Newquay, Falmouth, Saltash and Penzance offer a wide variety of ministry, more especially with children and young people, for example Kidz Clubs and the Three Villages Project and they boast a large membership from varied denominations.  The smaller ones tend to be predominantly Anglican and Methodist.

Churches Together in Cornwall oversee Local Ecumenical Partnerships, of which the best known is probably at Tregadillet, near Launceston, and they provide a Church Tent which is a significant presence at the Royal Cornwall Show at Wadebridge each June.
