Steppingstones to Discipleship
Be a ‘disciplined' disciple this Lent
What will you be doing for Lent?
Will you be forming a Lent group, but don't know what to do when you meet? Do you struggle to know what to recommend to your church's house group during Lent? What would you suggest for someone who doesn't read books, but spends hours online?
Archdeacon Audrey has researched much of the currently available material for Lent, in particular that relating to being a Christian disciple. A great variety of courses, books and online material is on offer - and some of it completely free!

Rubbing shoulders with The Rev
Deanery facilitator, Sarah Welply, took a group of young people from across the Diocese to the Greenbelt Christian Festival at Cheltenham. She writes...
This was the first time I had been to Greenbelt since I was a teenager myself. And this time I learnt to tolerate the queues in order to see the speakers, including the comedian Milton Jones, Tom Hollander and James Wood talking, amongst other things, about Rev - the BBC 2 sitcom about a vicar running a modern inner-city church, with a reluctant wife and a depleted, motley congregation - and spiritual director and author, Mark Yaconnelli.
Worship wise, I experienced a large scale communion service on Sunday morning - which involved about 20,000 people - along with a smaller ‘Beat Eucharist' paraphrasing Common Worship in the evening. Both events were equally creative but in very different ways.
The weather was unexpectedly good, networking opportunities in abundance, and the young people were great to be with. One other thing that a small group of them experienced was dancing at the main stage next to The Rev himself and his wife, Olivia, aka. actors Tom Hollander and Olivia Colman!
