Who can conduct a Church of England marriage?

Only an ordained priest or deacon (a minister) can conduct a Church of England marriage.

For more information about the minister in the parish in which you wish to marry click here. It is important that you contact the minister as soon as you can to make sure that he or she will conduct the service and so that he or she can check that the preliminaries are in order and that the church is available.

It is not possible to use a Church of England church for any other form of marriage as it is not a registered building. However, the minister may be prepared to agree to sharing the service with the minister of another Christian church in certain circumstances, provided that the Church of England minister actually conducts the marriage.
