Advice from the Diocesan Advisory Committee
Complete a preliminary application form. You can obtain this from the Secretary of the Diocesan Advisory Committee, Lyn Poole. Contact number 01872 274351.
Send this form with your plans, specifications and designs. Make sure that you send sufficient detail. If the proposals are extensive you will probably employ an architect or surveyor and you should send his plans including a plan of the current layout of the church and another showing the proposed alterations. If the proposals are minor, a sketch plan may be sufficient.
A specification or estimate or quotation from your contractor may help to define your proposals. Photographs of the church and the objects proposed can be helpful or an artist's sketch. Manufacturers sometimes provide photographs or sketches or brochures. You may be able to obtain a sample or colour chart.
If you are proposing a memorial you should ask the craftsman to provide a sketch to scale to show the size and form of the lettering.
The DAC will consider your proposal and may ask to arrange a site visit. The members may suggest changes or improvements to what you propose.
Ultimately the Committee will formally consider your petition and will give advice in the form of a certificate (form 1). This sets out precisely what it is you propose and records whether the DAC recommends your proposal or not.
