Mission
Mission is practical and positive Christian interrelation with others. Over the seven years 2002 – 08, 167 projects were undertaken with over £200,000 of Archbishops’ Council’s Mission grants – and those are just the financial grant, not the total resource expended in personal effort and PCC input.
While projects range from youth and family work and children's clubs to refurbishment of church halls and setting up parish offices, a few of the many memorable projects include:
- Fowey and Bude's youth workers involved in the local Community College and around the parish;
- Callington's Gospel Choir, with its full schedule of concerts and services;
- Illogan's new Sunday afternoon all age service with buns!
- Luxulyan and Torpoint's childrens' clubs and activities;
- St Austell's Churches Together newsletter - Hope for St Austell;
- Camborne's Street Pastors going out on Friday and Saturday evenings;
- St Columb Major and Troon's development of their church halls serving parish and community;
- Truro and Penzance's provision of regular breakfasts for the homeless;
- Diocesan schemes reaching out to migrants, and commemorating the abolition of slavery.
Faith in Justice offers hope for offenders
Over 100 delegates, from many different organisations, recently attended a ‘Faith in Justice' conference in Bodmin, hosted by the Diocese of Truro, to look at how faith communities throughout Cornwall can be even more effective in offering chaplaincy in prisons, campaigning for prison reform, supporting prisoner families, caring for victims of crime, and working to prevent re-offending.
