Youth Synod
The first meeting of the Truro Youth Synod was held in 2001. Since then members of the Synod have met on a regular basis and engaged in a wide variety of activities including:
Pilgrimages; Residential weekends; Hosting Diocesan Wide Youth Events; Representation on Diocesan Synod and Church of England Youth Council; Exploring issues of interest for and relevant to young people; Meeting with young people from different faiths; Enjoying a variety of social events.
And above all having a lot of fun!
Purposes of Youth Synod (Aims and Objectives)
- To bring young Christians together to share their concerns, explore their faith and support one another - and have fun?
- To challenge the Diocese to recognise, take seriously and use the gifts that God has given many young adults.
- To enable the Diocese to recognise their gifts to the church as part of the whole People of God.
- To equip and resource young people to be actively involved in the church.
- To enable young people's concerns and insights to be heard by the wider church.
- To enable young people to have a say in how the church is run.
- To encourage young people's participation in their parish, deanery and diocesan structures.
- To encourage young people to contribute to debate areas of concern to the whole church.
Membership
Truro Youth Synod has spaces for three young people from each Deanery. They should be aged between 13-25. We will try and hold events around Cornwall but there will be some travel involved. Currently there are spaces for new representatives from all of the Deaneries within the Diocese.
