Youth Synod members at Diocesan Synod 15 May 2010

Umzimvubu Youth Pilgrimage 2009 update

Over the last few years a strong link has been forged with the Diocese of Umzimvubu in South Africa.  In this time several trips have been made by clergy and laity to witness the work of the church and to support the clergy and other leaders.  In addition individuals and parishes are supporting the work by fundraising and increasing awareness of the link.  More details about the link can be found by clicking here .

In Autumn 2009 we took a group of young people to experience for themselves life in this part of South Africa. The team was based at an HIV/AIDS project in Cedarville where they engaged in some practical work for the project as well as meeting with local church youth groups and exploring the surrounding area.

Rosie Goodship and Megan Arnold (pictured) made a presentation at Diocesan Synod on 15 May 2010 at Penryn College.  Together with Sarah Welply, they gave a moving account of their experiences in Umzimvubu, closing with traditional Umzimvubu prayers.

If you would like to find out more about the pilgrimage or would like a group of the young people to visit your parish on our return, please contact Sarah Welply on 01872 247211.

St Enoder Flowers 1

Open The Book Flower Festival at St Enoder

23rd - 25th April, St Enoder Church was the venue for a plethora of ‘Open the Book' stories - all in flowers!  The amazing creations represented the Bible stories beautifully.  Shelley Porter, the Diocesan Children's Advisor went to have a look.

Amongst them, was a stunning rainbow of God's Promise, ending at a fabulous knitted ‘ark' and accompanying animals.  Animals were also present in the porch representing - what else but ‘In the beginning', beautifully crafted either side of the entrance to the church.  Joseph's coat of many colours and his dreams was breath-taking.  The ‘Parting of the Red Sea' down the central aisle ended with a wonderful depiction of a striking Egyptian charioteer.  The Lost Sheep, Moses in the Bull rushes, David and Goliath and many more were all there in glorious splendour.  The font was home to a collection of lovely colourful-filled ‘wellies' reminding us that Jesus said ‘Bring your children to me' filled by the children of the parish with a back drop of artwork from Summercourt School.

The flower arrangers and those who made and served refreshments can be justifiably proud of themselves.  Well done to you all and keep ‘Opening the Book'!
