Dementia Action Day res 260The Dementia Action Day, a Churches Together in Cornwall project, takes place this Saturday (June 20) from 10am to 3.30pm under the theme ‘Living with Dementia and Living Well’.

The morning event will be held in Truro Cathedral before moving over to Truro Methodist Church in the afternoon.

One of the organisers Christine Todd says: “We aim to understand and explore what memory loss means and how to access and enable support. It’s a day for everyone, those in Cornwall’s churches and in our communities.”

The Rt Revd Tim Thornton, Bishop of Truro will give the welcome and introduction before Trevor Adams from Livability (www.livability.org.uk/) gives a talk entitled ‘Understanding dementia?’ Trevor has worked in Dementia Care for over 30 years and runs courses and workshops nationally and internationally.

Az2B, a theatre group which performs throughout the UK to raise awareness of dementia issues, will then act out a lively series of situations in family, community and church settings. Scripts will be available via www.trurodiocese.org.uk and the Churches Together in Cornwall website after the event.

A free lunch of pasties and fruit will be provided at Truro Methodist Church and there will be a market place providing information, advice and support as well as a Music for Well-being session before the afternoon session gets underway.

Trevor Adams will then preside over a ‘Supporting and being inclusive: Dementia and continuing spiritual experience’ session in the afternoon. This will be followed by a Memory Friendly Service organized by Wadebridge Churches together. The day will end with tea and cakes and an informal question and answer session.

Throughout the afternoon a quiet room will be available and chaplains will be on hand for one on one conversations.
