P1040953Shelley Porter, Diocese of Truro Discipleship Project Officer, recently completed a 12 mile walk in aid of two charities.

Shelley joined 13 others as part of the WRAFs on Tour charity relay which has been taking place around Britain to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Royal Air Force Association.

Shelley said: “As many people know, I served nearly seven years in the WRAF in a former life! I had heard about the WRAFs on Tour relay and I took part here in Cornwall with a small group of others.”

The group all met at RAF St Mawgan before beginning their walk into Padstow and then on to Liskeard before all headed back to St Mawgan, a distance of nearly 12 miles.

Shelley, who lives in Luxulyan, said: “The aim of the relay was to raise about £10,000 but so far the total stands at over £22,000. I am really pleased I have been able to contribute to that.”

Hundreds of Ex and Serving Women of the Royal Air Force have joined together to raise money for the two charities. Some like Shelley have walked, others have run, cycled and other more unusual methods.

Shelley added: “I really want to thank everyone who supported me in prayer and donation. If anyone still wants to donate, they can do so by going to www.justgiving.com/teams/WRAFonTour

The national walk will finished earlier this month at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire.
