Bright sunshine greeted Archbishop Justin as he arrived in Truro and walked to the Cathedral for a day of prayer.

He was greeted at Lemon Quay by children from the Archbishop Benson CE Primary School and officially welcomed to Cornwall by the Lord-Lieutenant, Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE. Having met the media, he offered a prayer and walked to the Cathedral – accompanied enthusiastically by drummers from the school band – giving prayer cards and candles to everyone he met along the way.

Once inside the mood changed to a more prayerful one as he was joined by hundreds of people from across Cornwall, eager to catch a glimpse of the new Archbishop and to pray in the same place with him.

Inside the Cathedral, were a whole host of different means of prayer, ranging from a prayer labyrinth and prayer trees to more traditional methods involving silence or music with which to pray with the Cornish Saints. There was also a special prayer corner for all the children who came along to join in with the Archbishop’s ‘Journey in Prayer’.

Archbishop Justin received a warm welcome from everyone he met and with whom he prayed; and the news that he is to visit Cornwall for three days later this year – from 15-17 November – has been greeted with great joy.
